Breeding behavioral activities of captive red pandas in Nepal

چکیده

The red panda (Ailurus fulgens) population is decreasing, with less than 10,000 individuals in the wild because of habitat destruction, fragmentation, and illegal hunting. Captive breeding has become an increasingly crucial strategy for conserving endangered species, but efforts to generate self-sustaining populations have failed despite ample resources being allocated. Animals are often stressed captivity, it necessary examine reproductive behavior relating complexity requirements, dietary preferences, and, particular, pregnant mothers their sensitivity disruptions. Using videography, we observed two pandas along other behavioral activities Central Zoo, Kathmandu, Nepal. We collected data from December 2020 June 2021 using scan focal sampling. Reproductive behaviors (e.g., scent-marking, allogrooming, chasing, running, aggressiveness, mating, feeding feces) were observed, like locomotion, climbing, standing, self-grooming, feeding, sleeping, self-play, stretching. 1–2% total activity. Copulation was attempted on three occasions suggesting reproduction can be successful if animal husbandry properly managed. recommend zoo managers further refine strategies captive species such as pandas. Successful benefits zoo, captive-born animals mitigate extinction wild.

Captive breeding and the reintroduction of Mexican and red wolves.

Mexican and red wolves were both faced with extinction in the wild until captive populations were established more than two decades ago. These captive populations have been successfully managed genetically to minimize mean kinship and retain genetic variation. Descendants of these animals were subsequently used to start reintroduced populations, which now number about 40-50 Mexican wolves in Ar...

Virome comparisons in wild-diseased and healthy captive giant pandas

BACKGROUND The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is a vulnerable mammal herbivore living wild in central China. Viral infections have become a potential threat to the health of these endangered animals, but limited information related to these infections is available. METHODS Using a viral metagenomic approach, we surveyed viruses in the feces, nasopharyngeal secretions, blood, and differe...

Captive Breeding and Gene Banks

Today, our planet is in a state of crisis and many of its natural resources have been destroyed by human activities. One of the principle aims of conservation biology is to promote concrete management programs to limit any further increase in the number of extinct and threatened species and ecosystems. Different approaches may be followed to maintain the world’s biodiversity: the in situ approa...

Effects of dietary supplements of newly growing heather on the breeding of captive red grouse.

I. The effects of dietary supplements of heather at different stages of growth on the breeding of captive red grouse were studied. 2. A supplement of heather which was beginning to grow in spring stimulated captive red grouse to lay more eggs and to lay at a faster rate than birds given a supplement of dormant winter heather. 3. Although laying was stimulated, no significant effect on the date ...
